Speaker Interview: Paul Geier, Planning & Scheduling Manager, Trident Construction

What is the biggest challenge faced by planning & scheduling professionals currently?

I constantly see teammates without a scheduling background using AI to build schedules. Collaboration, aka the human element, is the most important part of scheduling. Using AI to build schedules in a vacuum reduces collaboration and team buy-in.

What are you personally speaking about at this year’s conference, and why does it matter right now?

I have two topics, one on my own and one with Mike Hopple. Mike covered our joint one pretty well in his response. My topic is about building a scheduling function in a small to mid sized GC. It shocks me the number of $200-500 M firms that do not have internal scheduling as a business function.

What are you most looking forward to discussing or learning from at this year’s conference?

I am looking forward to seeing how other schedulers are using AI to improve the output while keeping the core elements that create good schedules.
